OUR FLAGSHIP DAY
The Lake & Coast Experience
A full day on the water, in a traditional kayak, and on an untouched beach — the single best introduction to what makes Kosi Bay unlike anywhere else.
How the Day Unfolds
After an early breakfast, you’re taken down to the Parks Board landing site, where a local boatman from Bhanga Nek meets you. From there it’s a morning journey across the lake system, past the traditional fish kraals that have fed this community for generations.
At Bhanga Nek, you’re introduced to a local fisherman and his traditional palm kayak — a close, quiet way onto the water, with a genuine chance of a close-up hippo sighting. This isn’t a boat tour with a wildlife stop. It’s a real encounter, on the fisherman’s own terms.
From there, a walk to the beach for a traditional braai lunch and time to simply be — swim, walk the sand, or do nothing at all — before the boat carries you back to the Parks Board jetty and home to the lodge.
In turtle season (November to February), the same day extends into a guided turtle tracking walk, followed by a night boat crossing back — quietly, one of the most memorable ways to end it.

Good to Know
This experience is built around real people — a local boatman, a local fisherman, our own guide Trevor — not a call centre. Because of that, it needs to be arranged in advance rather than booked on arrival. Tell us your dates and group size, and we’ll take care of the rest. Kosi Bay isn’t set up like a conventional tourist town, and that’s exactly why this stays special.
