FOR SERIOUS BIRDERS
The Birding Days
A dedicated day with a qualified guide, built for listers — not a casual lodge walk.
Not a Birding Walk. A Birding Day.
Most lodges in this area offer a “birding walk” — a general guide taking you around for an hour because you mentioned you liked birds. That’s not what serious birders are looking for, and it’s not what we offer.
We work with a CATHSSETA NQF4 certified birding guide, with his own vehicle, who runs a genuine dedicated day built around target species — not a stroll. Kosi Bay’s mix of lake, forest, wetland and coast supports over 250 recorded species, including two real specialties: the elusive Pel’s Fishing Owl, a bucket-list species for birders across the world, and the striking Palm Nut Vulture, right at home in the raffia palm forests that surround the lodge.
This is a young, still-developing offering — we’re building it deliberately, with the right guide, rather than rushing out a generic product like everyone else in the area.

More Specialties to Spot
Goliath Heron
The world's largest heron, a regular sight stalking the shallows of the lake system.
Knysna Turaco
Locally known as the lourie — a flash of crimson wing through the coastal forest canopy.
Good to Know
A dedicated birding day needs advance arrangement with our guide, who has his own vehicle and covers multiple habitat types across the day. Best suited to a minimum 3-night stay, given the range this covers. Tell us your target species and experience level, and we’ll shape the day around you.
